Rice puddingRice pudding is a fantastic treat for your little one. It can be so versatile mixing in various fruits such as stewed plumbs, a little bit of apricot jam or even some golden syrup. Another alternative is to use dried fruit that has been diced such as dried apple or mango. These optional extras can be cooked together with the rice meaning there is far less cleaning up afterwards. This recipe will make around five or six portions.

  • 50g (2oz) pudding rice
  • 600 ml (1 pint) of milk (freash or formula depending on the age)
  • 1 or 2 table spoons of caster sugar
  • 1/2 tea spoon of vanilla essence

  • Place the rice, milk and sugar into a heavy saucepan
  • Bring mixture to the boil and reduce heat
  • Cover with a lid and allow to simmer for around 30 minutes
  • While simmering, give it an occasional stir
If your little one does not enjoy his milk bottle to much milky puddings such as this one can be a great way for him to receive all the nutrients he needs. Remember that you should only give cow’s milk to babies that are at least a year old, any younger than that and you should make milk based puddings with formula milk. Rice pudding is a very nutritions meal, full of calcium protein and vitamins. Avoid making it too sweet for little one or you will struggle to give him vegetables afterwards.
