Yeast infections or Candida Albicans can be caused by imbalances in your system. In this case that imbalance is between good and bad bacteria. One way to restore balance is to adopt an Anti Candida Diet . The Anti Candida Diet is intended to help you put foods into your body that nourish you and not Candida.
Following an Anti Candida Diet is not a difficult concept. The basic idea is to cut out majority of things that feed the yeast. So what does yeast feed on? That’s right. Yeast feeds on sugars. So in order to maintain a yeast free diet you need to eliminate foods that increase the growth of candida. You should limit or eliminate food that contains yeasts, molds, sugar, dairy, and fermented food. Starchy and alcoholic items should also be limited as they break down into sugars.
Some examples of Yeasty Foods include:
- Rolls, breads, bagels, cookies, muffins, doughnuts, pastries and pretzels.
- Any food containing vinegar such as salad dressing, barbecue sauce, mustard, and pickled foods.
- Alcoholic beverages
- Fermented food and beverages.
Some examples of Moldy Foods include:
- Cheeses (Cheese that uses bacteria only is safe)
- Packaged teas and herbs
- Canned tomatoes
Some examples of Sugary Foods:
- Soft drinks
- Maple syrup
- Fruit juices and dried fruits
- Energy drinks
Some examples of Starchy foods:
Reading this list one may think that an Anti Candida Diet will be too limiting. However, if you adjust your point of view, you start to see that we consume a lot of junk every day. An Anti Candida Diet is key to get back to the basics of natural unprocessed foods that are really what our system needs. So the question now is, what can you eat? Not to worry. There is a great deal of healthy, and tasty food choices out there that do meet the Anti Candida Diet criteria. Below are some examples:
- Vegetables, primarily dark green leafy ones
- Beef, poultry, fish, and fresh uncured pork.
- Whole grains such as couscous, rice, barley and buckwheat.
- Whole grain oatmeal and pasta
- Unprocessed seeds and nuts
- Unrefined vegetable oils
To achieve desired results, the Anti Candida Diet should be followed strictly from 3 to 6 weeks. In the initial weeks, the food cut off for the yeast within your body will cause a large yeast die-off. The down side of this is that many yeast toxins will be dumped into you intestines and vaginal track. The results of this may be fatigue, irritability and weakness. The up side of this is of course that our bodies quickly rebound as the toxins are flushed from our system. Once your body has become accustomed to the Anti Candida Diet, you will notice that you feel and look much healthier. However, this does not mean that you should entirely pull back from the Anti Candida Diet.
In order to maintain your long term health and prevent future yeast problems, you should continue to avoid yeast, sugar, and dary products. Once you complete the initial phase of the Anti Candida Diet you can sparingly add small amounts of the restricted foods back into your diet. However, keep in mind that you should only add one new food back at a time. As you do this, monitor your body closely to see if that particular food causes problems for your body. If you notice that your symptoms start to recur, then resume the Anti Candida Diet once again.
You should also consider adding helpful supplements to your diet as part of the Anti Candida Diet. You may consult with your primary health provider for recommendations. One example of supplements to consider is probiotics. Experts have not come to an agreement on how to define probiotics. One widely used definition, developed by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is that probiotics are “live microorganisms, which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.”
Keep in mind that the Anti Candida Diet is intended to bring balance to your system. So ensure that you are getting enough calories and drinking plenty of pure water. By following an Anti Candida Diet and being disciplined to rely on basic unprocessed foods, your body will be rid of the undesirable systems of yeast overgrowth.
